Meet the 3rd Generation Nest Thermostat!

After many speculated rumors, Nest Labs has official announced the release of their new 3rd Generation Nest Learning Thermostat. And it’s better than ever!

While the functionality and hockey puck shape remain basically the same, the greatest-added feature is its larger, higher resolution display. It is now highlighting a screen that is 40% bigger, 2.5 inches in diameter (compared to 1.75 inch diameter in the 2nd generation) and 229 pixels per inch, increased 25 percent from the previous version!

This improved screen size and resolution quality means the new Nest will be visible and easier to read from a further distance, which Nest refers to as the “Farsight” feature. Nest promises “across the room” viewing, so you don’t have to squint to see what your thermostat is up to.

The 3rd generation Nest Thermostat also features a new ability to better detect overheating issues that may occur when a furnace repair is needed. Nest is calling this added feature, the “Furnace Heads Up.”

More specifically, your smart thermostat will now run a diagnostic on your heating system (twice a year) to detect for any improper functions. If found, Nest will then notify you of problems, to better allow for a proactive approach to maintaining your HVAC system. This added feature has the potential to save its users quite a bit of money by communicating problems before they because a bigger issue!

Nest also announced that the 2nd generation will include the “Furnace Heads Up” feature in a software update coming in the new future!

In addition, the 3rd generation features a slimmer profile, measuring at 1.21 inches, versus the 1.26 inches on the 2nd generation thermostat. The best part? Smart Finish mounting brackets fit better than ever with the new design of the 3rd generation Nest Thermostat! Its slimmer design slides right into the pocket of the Smart Finish mounting brackets, providing a fully finished look, without unnecessarily protruding from the wall.
